As of March 10, 2025, a wildfire was fully contained in Ofunato, Iwate Prefecture, northeastern Japan (1). It primarily affected forested areas and is threatening nearby communities, including the Ryori district.

The wildfire was the largest to affect Japan in 33 years, having spread over 1,200 hectares over three days (2). One person died, and 84 homes have been damaged or destroyed.
