What is the name and location of the wildfires?
As of June 16, 2025, three wildfires are almost completely contained in northeastern Minnesota. The most destructive of the wildfires was the Camp House Fire, located in Ault Township, approximately 40 miles north of Duluth. It burned nearly 15,000 acres and destroyed an estimated 40 structures (1)(2)(3).
Two additional wildfires were also active: the Jenkins Creek Fire, near Hoyt Lakes, about 45 miles east of Hibbing, and the Three Lakes/Munger Shaw Fire, burning along Munger Shaw Road near Three Lakes Road. The Jenkins Creek Fire burned 16,332 acres. The Three Lakes/Munger Shaw Fire burned an estimated 1,600 acres but is nearly completely controlled (4).
Which cities or areas are affected by the wildfires?
Communities closest to the fires included Brimson and Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota (5). Drifting wildfire smoke may have also impact air quality in nearby communities, including Duluth, Virginia, and Hibbing.
What is the current containment status of the wildfires?
As of June 16, 2025, the Jenkins Fire is 98% contained. The Camp House Fire is 100% contained and the Three Lakes/Munger Shaw Fire is 100% contained. Full suppression tactics are underway by state and federal agencies, including the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service.
On May 12, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz authorized the Minnesota National Guard to provide emergency assistance to help fight the Camp House wildfire (6).
Are there any evacuation orders or alerts in place?
Evacuation orders were in effect for residents near the Camp House Fire, where at least 40 structures have been destroyed.
The Cadotte Lake Campgrounds and nearby campers were evacuated as a precaution.
A Red Flag Warning was in effect across nearly all of Minnesota due to elevated fire conditions, and an air quality alert related to ozone pollution was also active in much of the state (7).
